Good Names For Potential NBA Franchises?

Victor-Joghs, 2007-03-02 11:53:58
What do you think is a good name for an NBA franchise from any city? OK, this was in the back of my mind for some years now, but after i watched NBA All-Star Weekend in Las Vegas, i am totally convinced that NBA franchises need to be developed in cities like Las Vegas and Oklahoma City. Do you agree? I say OK City because when Hurricane Katrina took down New Orleans, Oklahoma City welcomed the New Orleans Hornets into their homes, hearts, and city. How do these names sound for these cities: The Oklahoma City Bombers (or Explosion) and the Las Vegas Gamblers (or Blackjacks). Could this work? Do you see these as good names? Based on the city you are from (or any other city for that matter), what do you think sounds like a good name for a potential NBA Franchise?

  • No names with explosions or bombs for OKC.
  • That would just keep opening wounds that are still healing.

  • New Orleans Cajuns...
  • Oklahoma City Tornadoes
  • Las Vegas Gamblers is right on...
  • The Flame might work too!
  • LA Lakers should change to LA Fame...I don't think Las Vegas should get an NBA franchise.
  • But if they had a team I would call them the Las Vegas Hookers...lol..just kidding.
  • It's not the image that the NBA should promote with the gambling and such that is associated with Vegas.
  • No way Oaklahoma City would name their team the Bombers or Explosion..that would be in bad taste.
  • How about the Drillers..they have oil there.

I spent ages on the ones I came up with. I dunno...a very interesting question. I can think of a few off the top of my head...St.Louis Stallions, Austin Desperados, Santa Fe Condors, Trenton Mad-dogs, Anchorage Bears and the Salem Burners. How about Las Vegas Aces? Oklahoma City I'm not quite sure about.

They are too contraversial and thus the NBA would not take them.Las Vegas ElectricityLas Vegas NeonsThese are two suggestions... they fit the city's character and do not suggest criminal activites (which is the reason the NBA may not locate there.) The electricity would be nice because of the word play meaning powerful force or excitement. Also the city uses lots of elecetricity to light everything up. The Neons would be good because that is the type of lights they use to light up their city and it would sound cool.Oklahoma City CherokeesOklahoma City RattlesnakesThese name would be better than evoking the sad tragedy of th Oklahoma City bombings. I know Indian names are contraversial but there really alot of cherokees in Oklahoma and they could pay tribute to them. Rattlesnakes would also work because they are native to Oklahoma.I'm from Columbus. They could surely suport an NBA team since they have been so supportive of all the Ohio State teams. Here are two name I would suggest if they made a Columbus franchise:Columbus ClassicsColumbus Cavaliers (relocate Cleveland's name to Columbus!)
